We Made It to Roatan

We finally made it in to Roatan, Honduras, yesterday, dropping the hook in the main port of entry, Coxen Hole (which is really funny to say over the VHF if you're juvenile like we are). We are anchored in the middle of everything without a single other sailboat in sight. Typically, cruisers head a bit farther down the coast to French Harbor, but we didn't want to repeat our going through a reef pass at night trick again after four days out on the ocean.

And, of course, we love it here! The island comes up out of the water in this 30-mile long strip of jungle covered mountains, and the place is full of music and people and twisting roads verging on the vertical. Vlad checked us in this morning with an assist from this guy named Omar. More on that later and on our trip across the Gulfo de Honduras. Spoiler alert: there's waterspout involved!
