And We're Off!

Don't we look awesome? And tired...
Well, this is it for a week. I want to thank my little brother Aleks for the care package filled with awesome Arkansas t-shirts. Vlad looks excellent in that hot pink AR tank top, and I finally learned what a pirate's favorite state is - Arrrrkansas!

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get our pactor modem up and running (It's some kind of software issue that I have yet to figure out and we have to get Windows on our Mac. Boo!), so, alas, there will be no posts during our crossing. But never fear. I will give you all the full scoop of how the trip went when we get to the Florida Keys in about a week.

Everyone keeps telling us that we won't make it to Key West (something about that fickle wind thing), but we're going to give it a go anyhow. Sounds pretty typical, no? We will miss you guys - friends and family alike - and will talk to you soon.

We love you!

- Vlad, Attila and David

  4. what's your call sign? Mine is NV5L. There are several ham nets sailors use, but the two you might find usedul right now are the Waterway Net, 7268 at 0745 EDT, and the Maritine Mobile Service Net on 14300 frpm 1200 to 2200 EDT. The WW Net can also help you with your pactor modem.

I'm in Pensacola headed for Galveston and plan to leave next week. Hope to read about you passage before I go...

    1. My call sign is KF5OZY. Thanks for all the tips on how to get started. Trust me, I need the help! Since I have a Mac, we will have to install windows in order to use the modem, so that's been a stumbling block. But hopefully by next week I will have everything figured out.

Would you suggest getting the ship's station license as well?

You should have a much nicer sail than we did, prevailing winds and all. Have fun!
