Bye, Bye, Bocas
We are leaving this morning for the San Blas after almost two months in Bocas del Toro. Staying in one place for a couple of months has given us the time to get a ton of work done on Bettie, but we have also been able to be a part of the community in a way that you just can't when only staying for a week. We've met many of the cruisers in town, the expats and the locals. We know where to get a good, cheap breakfast and have a favorite beach, a favorite beachside bar (Palmar on Isla Bastimentos, we love you!) and a favorite sloth-watching spot.
Nevertheless, we have been itching to move on, to see and explore some new places. Here are some highlights of the upcoming journey - Escudo de Veraguas, an offshore island which is uninhabited except for a couple of Indian families, a few fishermen and a species of three-toed pygmy sloth that's only found on the island; the historic city of Portobello; and crossing the ship channel that leads into the Canal Zone. It should be quite the adventure.
